Bologna tram project reaches milestone with new Navile canal bridge
Infrastructure development for the Bologna tramway project has reached a new milestone with the installation of a bridge over the Canale Navile for the Linea Verde (Green Line). This structure is dedicated exclusively to tram transport and is essential for connecting the city center to the Corticella district. The project is now entering its final phase, which includes the installation of tracks to complete the final section of the line.
The Linea Verde spans approximately 6.9 km, with 5.4 km consisting of new routes and 1.5 km sharing existing tracks with the Linea Rossa (Red Line). The route includes 17 stops, starting from via dei Mille in the city center and extending through via dell’Indipendenza and via Matteotti, eventually reaching the Castel Maggiore municipality, where an interchange parking area will be built.
Due to the ongoing construction of the Linea Verde, significant traffic disruptions are expected in Bologna. Starting Monday, October 20, the eastern lane of Piazza dell’Unità will be closed to vehicles. This closure will necessitate various bus route diversions for numerous lines, including the 11, 27, 34, 37, 62, 77, 87, 97, 98, 180, 181, 354, 364, 441, 445, 447, 448, 504, 990, N1, and N5, affecting several stops in the area.
