Bologna urban clashes cause estimated €250,000 in damages

Urban clashes in Bologna on Saturday, October 17, have resulted in an estimated €250,000 in damages to public infrastructure, services, and private property. The Municipality of Bologna has already allocated €50,000 for repairing asphalt, signage, and waste collection.

Various service providers have reported significant losses. RideMovi, the city's bike-sharing service, estimates damages between €60,000 and €70,000, noting that approximately 25 bicycles were burned and 100 others sustained mechanical damage. Public transport provider Tper reported over €50,000 in damages to buses, shelters, and infrastructure, while waste management company Hera estimated losses of approximately €35,000.

Additionally, tram construction sites suffered roughly €50,000 in damages, including the dismantling of 250 meters of construction site and damage to an excavator. Local business associations, such as Siap Emilia-Romagna, have highlighted the financial burden on taxpayers, noting that individual acts of vandalism, such as burning a trash bin, carry significant replacement costs funded by residents.
