Bologna water service to receive over €243 million in infrastructure upgrades
The ATERSIR Operational Intervention Plan for 2026‑2029 allocates more than €243 million to improve water services in the Metropolitan City of Bologna. The plan, approved by the province’s mayors, raises the investment budget by about €16 million compared with the previous schedule and follows an extraordinary update of the 2024‑2029 plan.
Of the total, €236.6 million will be managed by Hera S.p.A. for major maintenance and works on networks and plants, while €6.3 million is earmarked for SORGEAQUA S.r.l. covering both Bologna and Modena. In 2024, nearly €63 million had already been spent on 182 Hera interventions (about €60 million) and 38 SORGEAQUA projects (€3 million). The per‑capita investment rose to €59 for each Bologna resident, up from €57 in 2023, and overall regional spending on water infrastructure has almost doubled since 2016.
