Bolognetta to present study on Eleuterio Valley water mills

The town of Bolognetta will host a presentation for the book “Acque, ruote e mulini nella Valle dell’Eleuterio” by Marco Giammona on August 23, 2026. The event is part of the “Le Notti di BCsicilia” initiative and will take place at the Palazzo Monachelli cultural center.

The book explores the history of the water mill systems located along the Eleuterio basin, stretching from the Palermo hinterland to the Tyrrhenian coast. This hydraulic infrastructure supported the valley's cereal economy for centuries and shaped the social and daily lives of rural communities.

Through archival documents, historical mapping, and field research, Giammona documents twenty mills and their associated structures. The study examines the construction of these mills, the canalization systems used to harness hydraulic power, and the social relationships formed around milling activities.
