Bolsa Família beneficiaries generated 4.6 million formal jobs in Brazil
A study by researchers at FGV indicates that Brazil generated a net balance of 4.6 million formal jobs for Bolsa Família beneficiaries between January 2023 and July 2026. This figure represents the difference between 15.3 million hires and 10.8 million dismissals among program participants.
The findings suggest that these beneficiaries accounted for 85.2% of the total formal job growth in the country during the same period. The data, derived from Caged statistics and CadÚnico information, challenges arguments that the social assistance program discourages work. Researchers noted that individuals can continue receiving the benefit as long as the family per capita income does not exceed R$ 218 per month.
Demographic breakdowns show that young people aged 18 to 24 accounted for 40.5% of the net jobs generated for beneficiaries, totaling 1.9 million positions. Additionally, women represented 55.4% (2.5 million) and mixed-race individuals accounted for 62.7% (2.9 million) of the net job creation within this group.
