Bolsonarista leaders signal rift over Mato Grosso political coalition

Internal friction has emerged within the Liberal Party (PL) in Mato Grosso following a formal coalition with the MDB. Federal Deputy José Medeiros, a candidate for the Senate, acknowledged that while the party leadership formalized an alliance with the MDB, he intends to prioritize support from local mayors over the MDB partnership.

Cuiabá Mayor Abilio Brunini stated that the core Bolsonarista movement, including Jair Bolsonaro, Michelle Bolsonaro, and Flávio Bolsonaro, does not support the MDB candidate Janaina Riva for the Senate. Brunini claims the national agreement intended for the Bolsonaro family to support Medeiros for the Senate seat. This tension follows a social media post by Michelle Bolsonaro, which explicitly named Medeiros as the sole candidate endorsed by her husband for the Senate in Mato Grosso, effectively bypassing the MDB ally.
