Tanju Özcan faces up to 217 years in prison in Bolu corruption case

In a corruption and bribery investigation involving the Bolu Municipality, prosecutors have submitted their final opinions to the Bolu 3rd High Criminal Court. The prosecution is requesting a prison sentence for the suspended Mayor, Tanju Özcan, ranging from 69.5 to 217 years for crimes including bribery, extortion through coercion, and qualified fraud.

The case involves 19 defendants, four of whom remain in custody. The investigation covers six distinct categories of alleged misconduct: advertising contracts with chain markets, business licensing, sacrificial animal donations, progress payments, concrete procurement, and cafe operations.

Specifically, prosecutors allege that approximately 8.7 million TL in benefits were obtained from several markets, including BİM, CarrefourSA, and Avantaj, through coercive advertising contracts. Additionally, allegations include the misuse of 845,000 TL in religious donations through the BOLSEV foundation and pressure exerted on contractors regarding concrete supplies. The next hearing is scheduled for October 19.
