Boluda Shipping modernizes La Palma terminal with new STS crane

Boluda Shipping has announced the modernization and expansion of its BMT La Palma container terminal. The company is celebrating the incorporation of the port’s first Ship-to-Shore (STS) crane and the renewal of the terminal concession to Boluda Maritime Terminals.

The new Panamax-type STS crane features a lifting capacity of up to 40 tonnes, a reach of 38.7 meters over the sea, and a working height of 27 meters above the dock. This equipment is designed to handle larger container ships and optimize loading and unloading operations. The crane has undergone significant technological upgrades, including a new operator cabin, updated braking systems, electronic weighing, and LED lighting to improve safety and efficiency.

The event was attended by executives from Boluda Corporación Marítima and Boluda Shipping, alongside representatives from the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the Cabildo of La Palma, and the Special Commissioner's Office for the Reconstruction of La Palma.
