Palmeiras draws 1-1 with Cerro Porteño in Libertadores opener
Palmeiras drew 1-1 against Cerro Porteño in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores round of 16 at Nubank Parque. Despite playing with ten men following the expulsion of Andreas Pereira in the second half, Flaco López scored for the Brazilian side in the 36th minute. However, a late error by goalkeeper Carlos Miguel allowed Cerro Porteño to equalize in stoppage time.
Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira defended his goalkeeper and criticized the team's lack of clinical finishing, noting that they dominated much of the match. The result leaves the tie open for the second leg, which will take place on August 19 at the Estadio Ueno La Nueva Olla in Asunción, Paraguay. A win for either side will secure advancement to the quarterfinals.
