Bolívar police arrest most wanted suspect for sexual assault

The Ecuadorian National Police have arrested 32-year-old Edwin Alfredo M. Y. in the Bolívar province. He was the first individual listed as the most wanted in the province under the Gender Violence Crimes program.

The arrest was conducted through ‘Operation FENIX 533’, carried out by the National Unit for the Detention of High-Risk Persons Required by Law, with tactical support from the National Special Operations Unit (GOE).

According to the investigation, the suspect is accused of continuous sexual assaults against his younger sister, who was 10 years old at the time. The reported abuse occurred between 2019 and June 2020 in the Las Guardias parish of the San Miguel canton. The complainant, a cousin of the victim, stated that the crimes were not reported sooner due to death threats allegedly made by the suspect. The complainant also reported being a victim of sexual abuse by the same individual approximately 15 years ago.
