Multiple mass intoxications reported in Venezuela, Argentina, and Peru
Several regions in South America are responding to separate incidents of mass poisoning. In Boconó, Trujillo state, Venezuela, more than 40 students and staff at the Liceo Andrés Lomelli Rosario were hospitalized following a suspected mass intoxication. Emergency services, including firefighters and civil protection, evacuated the school, and authorities are investigating the cause amid recent reports of similar incidents in the region.
In the Bolívar district of Argentina, three members of a family, including two minors aged 15 and 17, died following a suspected intoxication at a rural field near Pirovano. Four other family members were hospitalized in serious condition. While investigations are ongoing, authorities are looking into potential carbon monoxide poisoning.
In Chachapoyas, Peru, 64 students from the Universidad Nacional Toribio Rodríguez de Mendoza de Amazonas required medical attention after consuming food from the university dining hall. Symptoms included nausea, fever, and abdominal pain. The university has suspended the dining service contract with its provider while health authorities conduct an epidemiological investigation.
