Bolzano police seize 80,000 euro historical silver coins

During a drug patrol in the Prati del Talvera area of Bolzano, Italian finance police (Guardia di Finanza) discovered ten historical silver coins valued at over 80,000 euros in the backpack of a homeless man.

The coins, which were minted between 1813 and 1936, were found in well-preserved condition. The individual, a Moroccan citizen with a criminal record for theft and drug trafficking, claimed he found the coins in a wrapper near a trash bin. However, authorities have charged him with receiving stolen goods as the origin of the artifacts remains unclear.

The operation, which involved drug-sniffing dogs, also led to the seizure of approximately 100 grams of hashish found both on the individual and hidden in nearby bushes. Following the incident, the man was notified of an order for expulsion from national territory.
