U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires Evacuated After Bomb Threat
On July 29, 2026, an anonymous telephone call warned that a bomb was placed outside the U.S. Embassy in the Palermo district of Buenos Aires. The alert prompted a precautionary evacuation of the diplomatic mission. Argentine Federal Police, its Explosives Unit, City Police and fire‑service specialists deployed around the embassy, blocked Avenida Colombia 4300 at the intersection with Sarmiento, and conducted a thorough sweep of the building and its perimeter. The bomb‑squad inspection found no explosive device. The investigation has been placed under Federal Justice to trace the origin of the threat. Authorities noted that similar threats were recorded in March and October 2023. The embassy later confirmed that all staff were safe and that normal operations could resume after the security checks were completed.
