Europe faces wave of bomb threats targeting multiple airlines FAST-MOVING

A series of bomb threats has disrupted European aviation, involving multiple airlines including Aer Lingus, Ryanair, Wizz Air, LOT Polish Airlines, and SAS. On Thursday, November 5, 2026, an Aer Lingus Airbus A320 flying from Dublin to Rome was diverted to the Evreux-Fauville Air Base in France after issuing an emergency alert. The aircraft, carrying 151 passengers and six crew members, landed safely in Normandy.

This incident follows a significant wave of similar threats earlier in the week. On Tuesday, at least seven to ten commercial flights across Europe were targeted by hoax bomb threats, prompting security searches, diversions, and emergency landings. Affected routes included flights from London, Lisbon, Manchester, and Copenhagen, with destinations such as Warsaw, Sofia, and Rome. In one instance, a Wizz Air flight from London Luton to Sofia was diverted to Hungary and escorted by fighter jets.

Authorities in various countries, including Poland, Italy, and Bulgaria, have conducted thorough inspections of aircraft and cargo, but no explosive devices have been found. Security experts have suggested the incidents could be part of a coordinated campaign or hybrid warfare by state actors, though no group has claimed responsibility. Investigations are ongoing to determine if these threats are linked.
