Bombardier Global 8000 receives approval for London City Airport

Bombardier has announced that its Global 8000 business jet has received approval from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to land at London City Airport (LCY). The designation is effective immediately for aircraft registered in jurisdictions where the aviation authority has approved the aircraft’s steep approach supplement.

London City Airport is known for its challenging operational requirements, including a 5.5-degree steep approach and a short runway of 1,199 meters. Bombardier attributes the aircraft’s ability to meet these constraints to its advanced wing design, specifically its leading-edge slats, and its robust braking systems.

Access to London City Airport is expected to provide significant time savings for passengers, potentially reducing ground transfer times by 60 to 90 minutes compared to using larger business jet hubs like Farnborough or Luton. The manufacturer noted that the Global 8000 can facilitate nonstop connections to downtown London from international destinations including Singapore, Los Angeles, Honolulu, and Buenos Aires.
