Bombardier invests $50 million in Kansas operations amid trade tensions

Bombardier has maintained its operations in the United States despite previous threats from President Donald Trump regarding trade restrictions. The aerospace company operates its U.S. headquarters in Wichita, Kansas, where it employs approximately 3,500 people and spends roughly $2.5 billion with American suppliers.

Following earlier criticisms regarding domestic manufacturing, Bombardier announced a $50 million investment in its Wichita operations on October 15. This package includes the opening of a technical training center to support its American service network, alongside an expanded wheel-and-tire repair shop. President Trump noted that the company’s presence in Kansas mitigated concerns regarding its access to the American market.

While Bombardier’s stock experienced a 17% decline in August and September due to trade uncertainty, the aerospace sector was ultimately excluded from recent retaliatory tariffs on Canadian goods. The company reported a growing order book, rising from $17.5 billion at the end of 2025 to $21.8 billion as of June 30, 2026.
