Bombay High Court denies urgent hearing on Election Commission challenge
The Kolhapur bench of the Bombay High Court has refused to grant an urgent hearing for a writ petition challenging 14 administrative orders issued by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The petition, filed by Advocate Asim Sarode, alleges that these actions were taken despite objections from fellow Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi. The contested decisions involve matters such as voter registration, the management of the electoral-roll database, and the functioning of Electoral Registration Officers.
The petitioner claims these actions raise significant issues regarding statutory compliance and constitutional governance. A division bench consisting of Justice Sharmila Deshmukh and Justice Neeraj Dhote declined the request for an immediate hearing, citing the current workload of its roster.
