Bombay High Court to hear actor Imran Khan's challenge to deportation notice
The Bombay High Court is scheduled to hear a petition from actor Imran Khan challenging a ‘Leave India’ notice issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). The notice directs Khan, a US citizen and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder, to depart the country by October 28.
The legal challenge follows an incident on October 10 in Mumbai, where authorities concluded Khan participated in a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Khan’s legal team argues that the notice is unconstitutional and procedurally flawed, noting that it was issued without a prior inquiry, a show-cause notice, or an opportunity for him to explain his position.
In his plea, Khan seeks to quash the order and requests an interim stay to prevent deportation, the issuance of a Look Out Circular (LOC), or any adverse actions regarding his OCI status. His lawyers emphasize that while he is a US national, his OCI status grants him specific residency privileges, and he denies violating any conditions attached to that status.
