Bonaire implements electricity tariff reduction via USD 6 million subsidy

The Water and Energy Company Bonaire (WEB) has announced a reduction in electricity variable usage rates following a USD 6 million subsidy provided by the Public Body Bonaire (OLB). The subsidy aims to improve energy affordability, maintain purchasing power, and protect the livelihood of Bonaire residents.

For post-paid customers, the subsidy will be applied as a discount of 0.1097 USD/kWh, reducing the variable rate from 0.5021 USD/kWh to 0.3924 USD/kWh. This discount will be reflected in invoices for the final four consumption months of 2026. Pre-paid customers will receive a relatively higher discount during the last three months of the year.

This measure follows reports of rising costs in the Caribbean Netherlands. While electricity tariffs previously saw increases, the new subsidy scheme on Saba has already resulted in unchanged electricity prices.
