Bonao dispute over lottery ticket ends in fatal altercation
A violent dispute between two brothers in the Peñalo sector of Bonao, within the Jayaco-La Ceiba municipal district, resulted in one death and one arrest early Sunday morning. The altercation was reportedly triggered by the disappearance of a lottery ticket.
The victim, identified as 45-year-old Máximo Minaya Sánchez, sustained a skull fracture, multiple lacerations, and a stab wound to his left leg. His brother, 44-year-old Benancio Esteban Minaya Sánchez, was detained by the National Police following a pursuit after he allegedly attempted to flee the scene.
Authorities recovered a machete, believed to be the weapon used in the attack, approximately one kilometer from where the body was found. The victim's body was transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) in Santiago, and the suspect and weapon have been placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry as investigations continue.
