Bonao residents launch 48-hour strike over public services

A 48-hour strike has commenced in Bonao, Monseñor Nouel province, marked by road blockades and the burning of tires. The protest was organized by several groups, including the Frente Integral de Lucha Nacional (Filna), the Frente Amplio de Lucha Popular (Falpo), and the Frente de Lucha (Frelu).

Protesters are demanding improvements to public services, specifically calling for an end to power outages and a reduction in electricity bills. Other demands include street paving in various neighborhoods, lower fuel prices, and measures to address environmental deterioration, particularly regarding the degradation of the Yuna River due to irregular aggregate extraction.

According to Filna representative Valentín Capellán, approximately 70% of commercial establishments remained closed during the first day of the strike. Additionally, the Asociación Dominicana de Profesores (ADP) has suspended classes. National Police officers have been deployed to major commercial areas to manage the situation.
