Bond University appoints Fiona de Jong as Director of Sport

Bond University has appointed former Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) CEO Fiona de Jong as its new Director of Sport. An alumna of the university, de Jong currently leads the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) European Training Centre in Italy and is expected to relocate to Australia early next year to assume the executive role.

The appointment aims to leverage high-performance and grassroots momentum ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. De Jong’s mandate includes expanding athletic infrastructure, enhancing campus sports culture, driving elite athlete recruitment, and integrating sports participation across the student body.

Vice Chancellor and President Professor Tim Brailsford noted that de Jong stood out in a strong field of applicants, highlighting her successful career in the Olympic movement and sports administration. De Jong expressed her intention to connect academic rigor with athletic excellence, noting that her own experience as a student-athlete at Bond helped shape her career in triathlon and sports law.
