Bong County approves US$4.94 million budget for FY2026
Bong County authorities have approved a US$4.94 million budget for Fiscal Year 2026, aimed at funding infrastructure, education, healthcare, and administrative programs across seven electoral districts.
Key infrastructure allocations include US$120,000 for the initial renovation of the Gbarnga Administration Building, US$170,000 for the Superintendent’s Compound, and US$70,000 for Flehla Public High School. The budget also designates US$250,000 for the county’s contribution to a Sports Park, supplemented by a US$950,000 contribution from ArcelorMittal.
In the education sector, US$165,000 is earmarked for the Madam Suakoko Scholarship Program, with additional funds allocated to Bong County University and Cuttington University.
Despite the approved resolution, the budget is facing scrutiny from citizens regarding spending priorities and project implementation. Concerns have been raised about the broad distribution of funds across numerous projects and whether local authorities can effectively monitor and complete the planned developments, especially following allegations that previous projects have stalled.
