Bong Joon Ho plans return to crime and horror genres
Oscar-winning director Bong Joon Ho is planning to return to the crime and horror genres following the completion of his first animated feature, ‘Ally’. During a recent interview, the ‘Parasite’ filmmaker revealed he is currently considering two or three new story ideas, noting a long-standing interest in dark action and crime narratives.
One project under consideration is a horror film set within the Seoul subway system, an idea the director has maintained for several years.
Currently, Bong is focused on the post-production of ‘Ally’, a project involving teams in Seoul and London. The animated film, which follows a curious deep-sea creature, features an English-language voice cast including Bradley Cooper, Ayo Edebiri, and Dave Bautista. Completion of ‘Ally’ is expected around late January or February 2027, after which the director intends to begin writing his next screenplay.
