Bong Joon Ho sets release dates for animated film Ally

Director Bong Joon Ho has announced theatrical release dates for his first animated feature, Ally. The film is scheduled to release in South Korea in July 2027 and in France on July 14, 2027. A release window for the United States has not yet been established, though speculation suggests a potential premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2027.

Ally follows a piglet squid living in the South Pacific who embarks on an adventure to explore the ocean surface after an unidentified aircraft crashes into the sea. The project is reportedly the most expensive production in Korean film history, with an estimated cost of approximately $60 million. Bong Joon Ho has been working on the screenplay for over eight years.

The voice cast includes Ayo Edebiri, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Finn Wolfhard, Rachel House, and Alex Jayne Go, with Oscar-nominated director Werner Herzog also participating.
