Bong Joon-ho’s ‘The Host’ returning to theaters in 4K restoration

Magnolia Pictures has announced a nationwide theatrical re-release of Bong Joon-ho’s 2006 sci-fi thriller, ‘The Host’, to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The film will return to theaters on November 20 in a new 4K restoration.

The restoration aims to enhance the film’s special effects, originally produced by Weta Workshop and The Orphanage. The re-release will also feature an exclusive conversation with director Bong Joon-ho.

Set along the Han River, the film follows a food stand worker, Gang-du, played by Song Kang-ho, who attempts to rescue his daughter after she is taken by a mysterious creature. Bong Joon-ho noted that while twenty years have passed, he believes the human emotions within the film remain relevant.
