Bongo District faces infrastructure gaps as Bagre Dam spillage is postponed

In the Bongo District, residents and local leaders are highlighting significant infrastructure and development gaps. Youth in Abokobisi have appealed for electricity, potable water, and employment opportunities, citing exclusion from government programs. Additionally, the Bongo-Soe road remains in poor condition a decade after a contractor was reportedly engaged, and a public toilet facility at the Bongo Soe Market has remained locked since 2017 due to electricity challenges.

On a regional level, the planned controlled water spillage from Burkina Faso’s Bagre Dam has been postponed. The Water Resources Commission reported that the reservoir level stood at 233.08 metres, which is below the 234.50-metre threshold required for spillage. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and have previously urged communities along the White Volta to take flood precautions.

Meanwhile, the Bongo District Assembly has begun rehabilitating the Sanabisi Kabre dam to improve water retention for farming and livestock, following complaints that a faulty spillway caused the facility to dry up too quickly during the dry season.
