Violence in Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul leaves multiple dead
A series of violent incidents in the Brazilian states of Mato Grosso (MT) and Mato Grosso do Sul (MS) resulted in at least three deaths and several injuries over the weekend of October 24-25.
In Bonito (MS), a 34-year-old man, Ewerton Rodrigues da Silva, was shot and killed following a traffic dispute that occurred near a political rally supporting Flávio Bolsonaro. While initial reports suggested a political motive, the Regional Electoral Court (TRE-MS) and the victim's family stated the conflict was personal and stemmed from a physical altercation involving a driver and a father, which prompted the father's 16-year-old son to open fire. Another man was wounded in the same incident.
In Porto Esperidião (MT), two men, Anderson Pires Bolandin and Sebastião Dusso Braga Neto, were killed during a shooting at a gas station. Police investigations indicate the violence was triggered by a banal dispute involving alcohol and prior disagreements, rather than political affiliations, despite occurring near a political procession. Two other individuals were injured in the confrontation. Authorities have identified two suspects in the Porto Esperidião case, both of whom remain at large.
