Bonito implements daily mosquito fogging to combat chikungunya
The City of Bonito, through its Municipal Health Department, has announced that mosquito fogging vehicles (fumacê) will circulate daily through all neighborhoods starting Friday (9). This measure is a response to an increase in chikungunya cases in the municipality.
The fogging operation aims to control the adult population of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which transmits dengue, chikungunya, and zika. The vehicles will operate in two daily shifts: from 5:00 AM to 7:00 AM and from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Residents are advised to keep doors and windows open during the application to allow the product to enter homes.
Health authorities emphasized that fogging is a complementary measure and does not replace the need for residents to eliminate mosquito breeding sites. Recommended preventive actions include cleaning yards, covering water tanks, cleaning gutters, and removing standing water from containers.
