Bonito municipality launches reading project for local families

The City of Bonito, through its Municipal Secretariat of Social Assistance and the Dr. Irene dos Santos Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS), has implemented the “Cantinho da Leitura: Letras que Conversam” project. The initiative aims to encourage reading habits, stimulate creativity, and provide a welcoming environment for children and families receiving services at the unit.

The project evolved from observing children accompanying their families during appointments. What began as providing coloring pages has expanded into a dedicated space that functions as both a reading corner and a toy library, thanks to various donations.

Other municipal departments are supporting the initiative. The Municipal Health Secretariat has conducted oral health and hygiene prevention activities, while the Municipal Environment Secretariat has donated books and comic books to expand the collection. Planned activities include shared reading, book circulation for home use, and community involvement in building the collection.
