Bonito recycles 31 tons of glass through Formigão project

The municipality of Bonito, Brazil, has successfully diverted 31 tons of glass for recycling via the ‘Formigão do Vidro’ project. Managed by the local Secretariats of Environment and Public Works, the initiative involves the sale of collected materials to VidroPorto, a company based in São Paulo, for industrial reuse.

The project operates through a partnership with Morhena Limpeza, Coleta e Logística, with EuReciclo providing logistical support and the specialized ‘Formigão’ vehicle. The program specifically targets large-scale generators, including hotels, restaurants, and bars, to facilitate waste separation at the source.

This initiative is part of Bonito’s ‘Zero Waste Policy,’ aiming to reduce the volume of waste sent to landfills and encourage sustainable practices among local businesses. By promoting shared responsibility between the public sector and the industrial recycling chain, the project seeks to balance economic development with environmental conservation in the tourist-heavy region.
