Bonn Climate Conference Sets 35% Renewable Electricity Target for 2035

The UN climate conference in Bonn, running from early June to 18 June, serves as the preparatory meeting between COP30 and the upcoming COP31 in Antalya, Turkey. Delegates discussed accelerating electrification and announced a proposal to raise the share of final energy supplied by renewables from 20% to 35% by 2035, with a goal of covering at least 35% of global electricity demand with clean power.

Speakers highlighted the need for a 25% reduction in building energy consumption and broader circular‑economy measures, such as halving waste growth and cutting food‑waste emissions. Indigenous representatives, including the Organización de los Pueblos Indígenas de la Amazonía Colombiana, called for direct climate financing and the inclusion of indigenous knowledge in policy.
