Bonn Court Sentences Parents for Abuse of Three Young Sons

A court in Bonn sentenced a 22‑year‑old mother and her 30‑year‑old partner to five and a half years each for the severe abuse and confinement of their three young sons in Zülpich, North Rhine‑Westphalia. Over five months the children, aged two to five, were locked in a dark, filthy apartment packed with used diapers, infested with maggots and flies, denied adequate food, fresh air and medical care, and were repeatedly beaten. Medical examinations later revealed at least twelve bone fractures and numerous hematomas.

The abuse came to light in late April 2025 when two of the boys were found on the street wearing only T‑shirts in cold weather. Police subsequently discovered the third child in the apartment, who was severely undernourished. All four children, including a newborn fourth son, have been placed in foster families. The court described the parents' actions as selfish neglect and malicious mistreatment.
