Bonn District Court orders indefinite psychiatric commitment for attacker
The Bonn District Court has ordered the indefinite commitment of a 30-year-old Syrian man to a closed psychiatric facility. The decision follows an incident in Eitorf where the defendant insulted a woman wearing a niqab and injured two men with a knife.
A psychiatric expert testified that the defendant suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder with delusions. He stated that women in full veils reminded him of suicide bombers from the Syrian Civil War, which acted as a massive trigger for his actions. In addition to the assault, the legal proceedings addressed charges involving resistance against police officers and altercations at a snack bar in Bonn and a hospital in Eitorf.
