Bonn light rail services face ongoing disruptions

Public transport services in Bonn face ongoing disruptions as 60 out of 75 Stadtbahn vehicles remain out of service for safety reasons. While there were concerns regarding potential outages on lines 16 and 18 due to necessary repairs, Stadtwerke Bonn (SWB) confirmed that these repairs were completed in time to avoid further cancellations.

Currently, only 15 newer Bombardier K5000 light rail vehicles are operational. Lines 16 and 18 are being serviced using these vehicles alongside equipment from Kölner Verkehrs-Betriebe. However, rail replacement bus services continue on three sections of line 66, specifically between Bonn-Ramersdorf, Ramersdorf-Bad Honnef, and Vilich-Siegburg. The suspension of the majority of the fleet continues while the technical supervisory authority reviews updated safety testing concepts.
