Bonn Museum Theft: 25 Vitrines Looted from Goldfuß-Museum

Unknown perpetrators broke into the Goldfuß-Museum at the University of Bonn and stole fossils and other exhibits from 25 display cases. The theft occurred during a multi‑year renovation of the Institute of Geology, with the wooden enclosures around the vitrines removed in early 2026, revealing the missing items. Police have found no obvious signs of forced entry and are still investigating how the thieves accessed the building.

Investigators have appealed to the public for information about any suspicious activity observed between December 2023 and July 2026. The university has posted images of the stolen objects on its website and asks that any offers to sell or otherwise handle the items be reported to the Bonn police.
