Bonn sports fields closed after extreme heat damages artificial turf
Extreme heat in Bonn has caused significant damage to four artificial turf sports fields, forcing their closure for play and training. The affected facilities are located in the districts of Beuel, Mehlem, Graurheindorf, and Röttgen.
Technical reports indicate that high temperatures caused the infill granules used in the artificial turf systems to melt and clump together. This process destroyed the elasticity and evenness of the surfaces, making them unsafe for regular use. In response, city authorities implemented strict access restrictions to prevent accidents and further material degradation.
