Bonn to test cargo bikes for urban commercial logistics

The city of Bonn is organizing a practical demonstration day to evaluate the use of cargo bikes for urban commercial logistics. Scheduled for October 12, 2026, at the Telekom Dome, the event titled ‘Heavily Loaded – Moving Quickly’ is hosted by Bonn’s economic development agency and the Nachhaltigkeits-Hub Region Bonn.

Targeting trades and service businesses that transport tools, materials, or goods, the event focuses on real-world application rather than general cycling promotion. Participants can test various cargo bike models and engage in discussions regarding equipment capacity, loading efficiency, and performance on routes with frequent stops.

To support businesses in transitioning to these vehicles, mobility advisers from the Cologne Chamber of Skilled Crafts and the ‘moveBonn’ project will provide information on workplace mobility and available funding opportunities. The initiative aims to help companies determine if cargo bikes can effectively integrate into complex work routines involving delivery schedules and specific parking requirements.
