Bonnie Tyler hit streams spike during solar eclipse

A recent partial solar eclipse triggered a significant surge in music streaming, most notably for the late Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler. Following her death in July, her 1983 hit ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ saw a 94% increase in streams in the UK and a 14% increase globally on Spotify.

In the UK, other tracks related to the celestial event also experienced massive spikes. Evolfo’s ‘Moon Eclipsed The Sun’ rose by over 12,000% in the UK, while Chris Staples’ ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ saw a 2,805% increase. Pink Floyd’s ‘Eclipse’ also grew by 594% locally.

In Mumbles, Swansea, residents and musicians noted the song playing throughout the village during the event. A tribute concert and procession are planned in the area ahead of Tyler’s funeral on August 17.
