Bonnie Tyler wakes from coma in Portugal, recovery expected to be slow

British singer Bonnie Tyler, 75, was taken out of a medically induced coma after an emergency intestinal surgery at a hospital in Faro, Portugal. She remains in intensive care and doctors say her condition is still serious, with a slow recovery anticipated.

All of the artist’s scheduled summer concerts through August have been cancelled, and some later dates have been postponed with the hope of resuming performances next year. Her management thanked fans worldwide for the outpouring of support and love.

The surgery followed earlier complications that led to the coma, including a reported cardiac arrest during an attempt to wean her off sedation. Further medical updates are expected as her condition evolves.
