Bono clashes with Israeli Minister Ben-Gvir over Gaza rhetoric

U2 frontman Bono has entered a public dispute with Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir following an interview with Rolling Stone. During the interview, Bono compared Ben-Gvir’s rhetoric regarding the population in Gaza to that of Nazi official Heinrich Himmler. This comparison was prompted by Ben-Gvir’s previous statements that certain individuals in Gaza are ‘not even people’ and ‘not worthy of life.’

Bono expressed that Ben-Gvir’s conduct puts the religion of Judaism ‘in the shade’ and criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for keeping the minister in his government. While Bono condemned the October 7 attacks as ‘an unholy offence,’ he maintained that he stands with both Israel and the Palestinian people.

Ben-Gvir responded to the remarks on social media, accusing the singer of being a supporter of terrorism. The dispute follows previous travel restrictions placed on the minister, including a ban on entering Ireland in June and an announced ban by France.
