Bonsai artist Daisuke Mariko to exhibit Washi bonsai in Shibuya
Third-generation bonsai artist Daisuke Mariko (JUME BONSAI) will exhibit his new Washi bonsai work, “Shokei -SHOKEI-,” at the “LuVLEE Artwork Project” in Shibuya. The exhibition is scheduled to take place from October 26 to November 2, 2026, at SHIBUYA SAKURA STAGE.
The featured piece, titled “Iwakura,” is Mariko’s first “ishitsuki” (root-on-rock) work. It utilizes 0.03mm thick Tosa Washi paper layered to represent the “memory of life” in a black pine tree. The artwork is themed “ONE LOVE,” symbolizing a prayer for coexistence across different cultures and nations. The piece also features a pot uniquely adorned with traditional Japanese obi textile.
Mariko, the third-generation head of Mariko Bonsai Garden, has received 88 awards, including the Prime Minister's Award. The exhibition will include artist talks, DJ events, and official merchandise sales.
