Bontang leads Kalimantan in 2025 economic wealth per capita

In Kalimantan, Bontang has emerged as the wealthiest city based on 2025 Gross Regional Domestic Product (PDRB) data, recording Rp371.19 million per capita. The city's economy is driven primarily by the manufacturing sector, specifically basic chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) refining. Tana Tidung Regency in North Kalimantan follows as the second wealthiest region with a PDRB of Rp338.61 million per capita, largely due to its mining and quarrying sectors.

Separately, the Head of the Bank Indonesia Purwokerto Representative Office, Aswin Gantina, emphasized the importance of journalists accurately interpreting economic data. During a media capacity-building event, Gantina noted that reporters should go beyond presenting raw figures, such as inflation or growth percentages, to explain the real-world impact of these numbers on the public. He also stressed the necessity of data verification to prevent the spread of misinformation on social media.
