Booking.com adopts transparency measures in the EEA
Booking.com has voluntarily implemented new transparency measures for its partners across the European Economic Area (EEA) following regulatory dialogue regarding compliance with the Digital Markets Act.
A key change involves the Booking Sponsored Benefit program. The platform will no longer use prices offered on other channels or a hotel's own website to determine eligibility for this program. Previously, non-competitive pricing on external sites could impact a property's qualification. Additionally, Booking.com has removed 'competitive' and 'non-competitive' labels from its extranet to ensure hotels do not feel pressured to align prices across all channels.
The European Commission noted that these changes aim to enhance transparency and ensure fair terms for business users. While these measures address compliance with the Digital Markets Act, they do not affect ongoing investigations by authorities into potential abuses of dominant market positions by the company.
