BookSprint Namibia releases four new children's books
BookSprint Namibia has produced four new children’s books aimed at readers aged three to eight. The initiative, held at the Goethe-Institut Namibia, involved 12 local illustrators, designers, and authors who completed the titles during a 12-hour creative session.
The new titles are “Mbondee, My Best Friend”, “Naita and the Call of the Birds”, “Tuli’s Lucky Day”, and “Unedjipa’s Magic Pen”, bringing the total collection to 13 books. The project aims to provide high-quality, locally produced reading material in multiple Namibian languages to improve learning outcomes for children.
Organizing committee member Nasrin Siege noted that access to books helps children understand the world around them. The books are currently undergoing final design refinements and will receive ISBNs before publication. In 2027, the titles are expected to be translated into eight additional Namibian languages, including Afrikaans, German, Khoekhoegowab, Oshikwanyama, Oshindonga, Otjiherero, RuKwangali, and Setswana.
