Boox announces Picco compact e-reader for November release

Boox has unveiled details for its upcoming compact e-reader, the Picco, which is expected to launch in November. Showcased at IFA, the device features a sub-4-inch e-ink touchscreen designed for one-handed use.

In a departure from the company’s typical Android-based operating system, the Picco will run on a streamlined Linux system. This change means the device will not support third-party applications such as Kindle or Google Play Books, limiting users to the Boox store and epub files.

The hardware includes customizable physical buttons and page rockers to complement the touchscreen. For storage, the device is expected to rely on a microSD card slot rather than dedicated internal memory. Users can transfer files via USB-C or through a companion Wi-Fi app. Unlike some other compact models, the Picco will not feature magnetic attachments for smartphones.
