BOOX unveils Picco, a card-sized eReader for the Tiles lineup

BOOX has announced the pre-order launch of the Picco, a compact eReader that marks the debut of its new Tiles product line. Designed for portability and short reading sessions, the device is roughly the size of a playing card, weighing only 58 grams and measuring 105.5 x 62 x 5.5 mm.

The Picco features a 3.97-inch monochrome ePaper display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and a density of 235 PPI. It includes an adjustable front light with both brightness and color temperature controls. To facilitate on-the-go use, the device comes with a dedicated magnetic case that allows it to be attached to the back of a smartphone.

Unlike many other BOOX models, the Picco does not run on the Android operating system, meaning it lacks access to the Google Play Store. Instead, it utilizes a specialized firmware that supports various document formats such as EPUB, MOBI, and HTML. Users can transfer files via USB-C, a web browser, or the BOOX Tiles app. The device also includes a microSD slot supporting up to 2 TB of storage and features physical page-turning buttons alongside touchscreen capabilities.
