Boquerón Battle marks turning point in Chaco War

The Battle of Boquerón, which began in the early hours of September 9, 1932, marked a decisive turning point in the Chaco War between Paraguay and Bolivia. The conflict escalated after diplomatic efforts failed, leading to military engagement initiated by Paraguayan artillery.

For Paraguay, the recovery of Boquerón was a strategic necessity to secure the Central Chaco, protect Mennonite colonies, and defend vital logistical hubs like Isla Poí. The national leadership, headed by President Eusebio Ayala and Lieutenant Colonel José Félix Estigarribia, coordinated the strategy to regain control of the position and maintain dominance over the region.
