Bor Şeker acquires Adapazarı Sugar Factory for $50 million

Bor Şeker has acquired a 99.584% stake in the Adapazarı Sugar Factory from Yıldız Holding for $50 million. This acquisition doubles Bor Şeker’s share of Turkey’s total sugar production quota from approximately 2.5% to 5%.

The takeover is expected to significantly alter sugar beet processing in the region. For the 2026 production season, approximately 120,000 tons of sugar beets have been committed for planting in the Adapazarı hinterland. However, reports indicate that this crop will not be processed locally in Adapazarı; instead, it is planned to be transported hundreds of kilometers to the Bor Şeker factory in Niğde for processing.

Factors contributing to the change in operations include shrinking beet cultivation areas in the region and low polar values in local sugar beets. Low polar values—which measure sugar content—require more beets to be processed to achieve the same sugar yield, making local processing less efficient compared to other regions.
