Border Patrol rescues MS NOW crew stranded in Texas desert
An MS NOW news crew was rescued by eight Border Patrol agents after their Jeep Wagoneer became stranded in the remote Big Bend region of the Texas desert. The incident occurred while correspondent Antonia Hylton was filming for the program ‘The Assignment’. During the rescue attempt, three of the four Border Patrol vehicles dispatched to assist the crew also became trapped in the difficult terrain.
Hylton was in the region reporting on local opposition to federal efforts to use eminent domain to acquire private land for border barriers. One landowner, Yolanda Alvarado, expressed concerns that proposed barriers could sever her family's access to Rio Grande water sources or separate their home from an ancestral cemetery.
The report also highlighted the extreme geographic challenges of the US-Mexico border in this sector, noting that the Big Bend region accounts for only 1.3% of total border apprehensions due to the formidable mountains, river, and vast desert stretches.
